Kirstenbosch Overlook
I created this collection of designs—including a floorplan, mood board, interior finishes schedule, sample boards, and materials display— for my Interior Design Institute certificate. We were given the basic footprint of the home and instructed to redesign the layout and decor based on a client brief and the structural specifications of the house. Since then, I have incorporated some aspects of the vibrant botanical palette into the sunroom of my home.
If you want to see green, go to Kirstenbosch Gardens. From the emerald leaves of the fynbos and ferns to the deep, malachite color of Table Mountain, you feel the full spectrum of peaceful energy conveyed by this natural hue.
This Kirstenbosch-inspired palette announces itself boldly with a glossy green front door. Inside, deep green kitchen cabinets carry the theme and ground the space, which is otherwise painted in a calm, soft white. The black window grilles, inspired by Bobby McAlpine, balance the dark kitchen cabinets and frame a view of the gardens. The adjacent mindfulness room, which also overlooks Kirstenbosch, is soft and relaxed with a jute rug and mats and pillows of natural fibers in neutral tones. The home is accented by the green fabrics on furniture, scatter cushions, and art. The garden comes inside via live plants in every corner.
